摘要：PURPOSE:To accurately and continuously detect the height of the surface of filter medium bed and to automatically control the quantity of counter washing water based on said detected value, by providing with the ultrasonic waves reflection type level gauge having the sensor part on the upper part of filter material bed, on occasion of washing the filter medium counter. CONSTITUTION:Feed water to be filtered is supplied to the filter vessel 1 and is filtered by passing through the first filter medium bed 2 and second filter medium bed 3 successively. Then, filtered water is entered the room 4 and is taken out as clean water. One end of the washing water supply pipe 5, is opened in the room 4 and the washing water is flowed backward from the room 4 through the beds 2, 3 and then, is flowed out from the upper end of the vessel 1 after raising up in the vessel 1. Oscillation of ultrasonic waves having a fixed frequency, is sent from outgoing part provided with the sensor part 7 toward the surface of the bed 2 by the level gauge and the ultrasonic waves reflected on said surface, is received by the reception part provided with the part 7 also and then the surface height of the bed 2 is detected from the necessary time from the outgoing to the reception.
