I  Pre-reading activities

  To set up suspense and develop interest in the topic
对应目标:for learners to know something about inventions and have a better understanding of some inventions related to our daily life
A guessing game
T shows some descriptions of certain inventions and lets students guess what they are.
Ss enjoy the pictures and then  they share their ideas about the question.
II While-reading activities
Part one skimming :  Set tasks for general comprehension
Aim:
to enable the students to find out the structure of this passage, which may help them get the main idea.
1. T asks Ss to read the passage quickly and silently, then do the following exercises:
Task 1 What is the passage mainly about?
The text is about  the problem of _____________ and presents the procedures of __________them and how to apply for ________.
To make it easier , we may divide the whole passage roughly into 2 parts
Problem:  paras  1- 6
Patent:  paras  7-8
2.T asks Ss to get the main idea by asking:

1. Ss should read the material silently to find out the main idea 2.Ss may have a discussion in pairs to compare and clarify their answers.
2. Ss provide and justify their answers.
Part two scanning : Set tasks for comprehension of the detail
Aim: to enable students to understand the given material better by using different reading skills.

1.T helps students use proper reading strategies to understand the text better from various aspects.
2.T helps the students use English to comprehend this passage, to express their ideas as well as to think, I design these items.

As we all know, every inventor must go through several stages before they can have their invention approved? According to the passage, put them in the suitable order.

Help others solve the problems! Hand out the problem camp(问题集中营)( attached please find what you want.)
the Idea of Class
Rule : When one group is presenting their ideas and the rest can serve as the judges to decide whether it can be an invention. Give it a “yes” or “no”.
1. Ss choose one or two problems from the problem camp to work on their ideas.
2. Ss work in a group (based on the assigned roles, such as, a painter, a writer or a speaker).They must be clear about their role.

Aim: To encourage Ss to study English spontaneously and independently after class

Anticipated problems
It is difficult for students to find correct answers in such a long passage. It is a big challenge for students to express their own ideas fluently on what they have learned from the passage
Possible solutions
T guides students to use appropriate reading skills , such as scanning, skimming or finding the key words to help find correct answers. The teacher can give some clues and time for students to have a group discussion.
