一、阅读理解
When Pilar Jiménez got married in 1961, she knew her marriage would last. "Back then, no one separated," says the 71-year-old lady. "Marriage was for life." Indeed, her husband and she lived happily until he passed away two years ago. But if her marriage was typical of its time, so are those of her 10 children: five of them are now divorced.
The rate of broken marriages has risen steadily since Spain legalized (合法化) divorce in 1981, and a 2005 reform has caused those numbers to skyrocket. The reform has allowed couples to separate for one year before divorce. As a result, Spain now has one divorce for every 2.3 marriagesan increase of 74% in the past two years alone.
For the Catholic Church, Spain's rising divorce rate shows the morality (道德) is being threatened, and this threat comes from the government, whose power has no longer remained in the Church. Cardinal (红衣主教) Augustín García-Gasco believes that radical s
eparation of politics and religion has led to nothing but despair along with abortion and fast divorce. Benigno Blanco, president of the Spanish Forum for the Family, agrees, "The reform has made the marriage contract useless." 中冶集团华冶资源开发有限责任公司
However, Spaniards (西班牙人) no longer feel shameful by the prospect of divorce. A website named "divorcioexpress" offers couples agreements on divorce through the Internet. "We facilitate about 100 divorces a month," Alberto Gillette, the founder of the website, says, "but we're not encouraging divorce, just making it easier to get." Like the companies, some sociologists also think it unreasonable to be worried about the divorce boom, because the number of separations is dropping down when that of divorces is increasing. "In the past, when it came to the issue on divorce, Spain seemed unique in Europe." Sociologist Inés Alberdi says, "Now we're more like other European countries."

Child labor, the employment of children in industry, often against their will, has been a problem for many years.
Over a hundred years ago, Charles Dickens shocked many of his readers when he described the conditions under which young children worked in British factories. The conditions Dickens described continue almost unchanged today in many parts of the world. The only difference is that today employment of children is confined to small industries and family businesses, such as hotels, restaurants and particularly farms, rather than to large factories.
Girls suffer more from child labor practices than boys. Many of them are forced to start work when they are only ten years old. Although the work they are given to do is often light, it is often harmful to their health. Recently, children as young as six years were found to be working in Asian factories, and the children were working from eight to fourteen hours a day in overcrowded and unhealthy working conditions. Sometimes a whole family group is employed, with the payment going to a parent or older relative. The children not only receive nothing or very little for their long hours of work, but also they are prevented from attending schools. Therefore, when they become older they are unable to do any other kind of work.
The solution to the problem of child labour is clearly better laws to protect young children, greater supervision of industry and heavier fines for those who break the laws. Only in this way can young boys and girls be allowed to enjoy the most valuable time of their lives-childhood.
