Question 1
Please explain how your previous experiences (e.g., undergraduate education, internships, work experience, leadership opportunities, volunteerism, etc.) combined with a Master of Science in Commerce from the McIntire School of Commerce will help you accomplish your career goals. (500 word limit)
The current business world urgently calls for professionals with commercial skills and incisive sense of market. To meet the needs of the business community, I need to equip myself both conceptually and practically with the most advanced knowledge in these fields. For this reason, I choose the Master of Science in Commerce program as my spring board to reach higher in future career. An integrated approach in learning business in Virginia is good fit to me.
I always wanted to become a top expert in international business, particularly with insights from Human Resource Management and Economics. I want to serve clients of all lines of work, having particularly strong knowledge and skills in areas of compensation and benefit
design, work task evaluations, business expansion planning, and international M&A. With the superior education in McIntire, I am confident that I am approaching my career goals.
王家新的资料
As an outstanding student in the famous XXX University of China, I have done sufficient preparations for my pending graduate studies. The vigorous economics program and related subject courses have armed me with a solid basis of fundamentals, such as macro/micro-economics, econometrics, statistics, business management theories, accounting and also international finance. I also participated actively in various courses in Organization Behaviors, Fundamentals of Human Resource Management, Psychology and Sociology, etc. I view them all as necessary building blocks for a successful career as a good business professional in the age of globalized business.
Commerce or business nowadays is not about rigid numbers or hard facts which textbooks can tell, while it is more about flexible utilization of these skills in the real business world. Fortunately, I gained these valuable experiences in XXX.sci数据库, the largest XX human resource consultancy firm as a consultant trainee. Guided by experienced consult
msld
ant and veterans in Mercer, I was involved and introduced into many sizable projects, such as the BMW (China) incentive and benefit scheme design plan 2010, and the multi-million dollar projects of work and employee relation improvement for several public companies. Different factors in actions, such as increased diversity in workplace, patterns of business reporting and resolution and shifting roles of consultants and clients, all seemed to me so complicated yet fascinating. In particular, I was drawn to these several magnetic fields such as financial analysis of costs and management issues inherent in organizational relationship. There I got to understand the essentials in real human resource and business operations more thoroughly, including an organic composition of business accounting, Human Resource dynamics, client management and also making effective proposals and bids.
I have come so close to my dream, as companies such as XXX have extended to me an enviable offer of position as a good business consultant in the Beijing office after my graduation. However, I decide to press forward, as I can see in myself some deficiencies of trainings in several key aspects of business and management essentials. The program
in McIntire provides me exactly such integrated programs of financial accounting, leadership, management and also organizational relationship studies. I like the core courses in McIntire and would like to bring my own insights and contributions to it.
Question 2.
Describe a failure or disappointment you have experienced during your undergraduate career and describe what, if anything, you would have done differently leading up to and/or in response to the event. (500 word limit)
As an undergraduate student in XXX University of China majored in economics, I have always been very confident about myself. Especially, I excelled in almost every course of my undergraduate years with my distinct performances in a class of 90 students. My skill in econometrics analysis software, statistics and other fundamental sciences courses, together with my interest and passion in economics, guaranteed my academic success. It is easy for me to gradually believe that economics as a discipline is easy for someone like me adept in sciences and keen at dealing with numbers.
This impression changed when I met a disappointing but precious failure during my second year in the University. Because of my outstanding performances in the college, especially my advantages over my peers in statistics, I was chosen by one of my professor, Professor XX炎井温泉, in the research project of 开关电源模块并联供电系统XXX as his research assistant. The project is among series of researching projects on Macroeconomic Forecasting Model of minority areas and quantitative research of economic theory in our university. While, various methods were used in describing and forecasting the economic situations of ethnic groups of Western China, including: systematic analysis of economy, econometrics, input-output comparison, cost benefit analysis and so on, my job in the project was comparatively simple. I was responsible for building an economic quantitative model to measure the economic variables and indexes, including total retail sales of consumer goods and balance of household deposits etc.
Since during that period of time, I was busily engaged in many difficult courses in school, moreover, besides the heavy workload of courses, I also shoulder many responsibilities in various extracurricular activities including Student Union of University. That did not mak
e a good excuse. For short of time as well as related research experience, I chose one type of quantitative model into use in haste and hurry without the properly arranged experimental tests of various quantitative models. As the deadline approaching, I failed to offer the satisfying result with proper data. Looking at the results, unsatisfactorily and disappointed, I saw the project delayed for substantially due to my judgment too hasty and too east
Except for disappointment, this experience also left me with deep thinking about research and study. Facing the sciences, including managerial sciences, one has to be as rigorous as possible in the research process: in dealing with any numbers, data, and facts, in offering any evidences and examples, and in every steps of analyzing. That is the attitude I would have if I had another chance to redo it, no matter how busy I were. Being serious about our responsibility is always the first thing to remember, especially when we are talking about the academic field, which is our top priority. Still, I would also have sought guidance from my peers and professors, besides gaining knowledge in comparative analytical methods and economic statistics by self-learning.
