Some Notes on English Language Learning

通过《2015年合肥市中小学教师心理健康远程培训》的学习,本人受益匪浅,结合英语教学,提出自己的一些见解。一孔之见,请多指教。
每一个英语学习者都有不同的家庭背景、学习条件等。因为这些主观和客观的因素,我们无法给出一个统一的途径。学习英语,需要注意两点:目标和手段。目标,换句话说,就是我们为了什么学习。目标需要热情、决心和坚持,没有目标就不能学好。也能够说人们学习英语需要学习的动机。除此之外,学习方法也值得注意。实际上,无论从哪个方面来说学习的方法都是很重要的,它是成功的保证。方法和手段能够带来效率,否则会事倍功半。总来说之,在学习英语的时候不但要清楚地知道目标,而且要清楚地理解学习的方法。
对于学习英语的目标,必须要以准确的态度面对学什么和为什么学。掌握英语能够获得机会并提升思维水平,它将有益于我们和每一个人实行文化交流。

English learners may differ from each other in family background, studying conditions and so on. Thus we cannot give an all-inclusive approach, as we have so many subjective and objective factors. To study English, one needs to mind two things: ends and means. Ends, in other words, is what we study for. Ends have something to do with one’s enthusiasm, determination and persistence. One cannot study well without an aim. It’s also right that one in his English study needs motivation which seems from his purpose of study. Besides this, attention should also be paid to one’s method of study. Actually the method of study in all fields is rather important. It is the guarantee of success. Methods or means can bring about efficiency. The ignorance of this may get half the result with twice the effort. Conclusively speaking, in our English study we have to be very clear about not only the purpose of our study but also the method of our study.
    For the purpose of English study, one must take a correct attitude towards what he stu
dies and why he studies. To master English is to obtain scope and sharper our thinking ability. It’s conducive to cultural exchange and helpful to everyone.

1. Problem and Problem analysis
1.1 Problem
Many questions have been asked about how to study English well. Why in the same classroom, some students can learn English well easily, but some students learn English hard?
1.2 Problem analysis

Language, which is for recording and disseminating, is the artery of cultures. It is a means of communication. Therefore to master a foreign language is one of the urgent needs for all of us. Through the problem analysis, I came to know that some of my students don’t know the way to study English well, I have made up my mind to solve the problems:
(1)They usually encounter new words when they read;
(2)Very often, they could not understand clearly what the writer is trying to say;
(3)They havent a good way to memorize grammar and vocabulary;
(4)They havent enough chances to communicate to another.
1.2.1 Analytic method
Through careful analysis, I think out several questions concerning the student’s problems:
(1)Why are some of my students good at English, while others are not?
(2)How can teachers help the students to improve their skills?
(3)In what way teachers can help the students to improve their skills?
I think those who learn English well must have good ways of study, I should find the ways for my students.
1.2.2 Socratic dialogue
A: Why are some of my students always feel difficulty in English study?
B: Do you think you could understand the making of machine than engineer?
A: Of course not.
B: Why?
A: Because the main reason is that I havent been trained in that way.
B: Did you teach your students some proper skills to develop their ability in English study?
A: No, I havent. Because I have no more time to carry out my teaching plan in this aspect and overlook to improve it.
B: How about those students who are good at this aspect?
A: Oh, I see, they must have some methods to deal with it.
B: Thats right, and do you want to have a try?
1.2.3 Questionnaire
I design a questionnaire based on my questions. I want to know what my students think about English study. I check the result and conduct a survey from it. I find most students want to do a communication, but have no chance.
