Why Amanda selected Kingsway
Infant School for her children
Amanda and Edward Foster live in
Watford with their children Ella, seven,
Charlie, five and William who is three.
Fond childhood memories
Amanda has always had very fond memories of
Kingsway Infant School, having been there herself
as a child and where her father was a Governor.
“My most abiding memory is of feeling safe and
happy there,” she says, “and that is what I want for
my own children in their early years.”
吴元欣Active enjoyment
There’s no doubt, believes Amanda, that Kingsway’s
approach to education is effective, and Amanda
likes the way that both Ella and Charlie are treated
according to their own individual personalities.
“Ella is fairly studious and more of a thinker, and民诉法179条
Charlie likes to get stuck in in a more physical way
so whilst Ella enjoys being given a bit of an extra

challenge with her reading, for example, Charlie
finds practical, hands-on lessons more fun. Both
are actively enjoying learning and to me that is
invaluable - school shouldn’t be a chore, especially
at this stage.”
Children say
Ella: “I love Kingsway because it is fun and we get
to have ‘golden time’ if we do well during the week.
All my teachers are really nice and I enjoy going to
school”
Charlie: “I love having ‘golden time’; we get to play
with whatever we want. I love playtime too.”

t h e s c h o o l d a y Lynsey and Michael O’Dell live on the Kingsway estate with their daughters Thaya, six and Isla, three. Flourishing
Lynsey is a Primary School teacher herself and
as such knows what to look for.  “Thaya is a high-achiever so we were less concerned with checking Ofsted reports than with the overall reputation of the school,” she says. “We are thrilled with Thaya’s progress, and more than happy with her teacher who is caring and loving, but firm at the same time, and to me that is exactly the right recipe. Had Thaya starting slipping behind we might have had our doubts but she is flourishing in every way.”Getting parents involved
Kingsway has a strong policy of involving parents in the life of the school, and when Michael heard t
hat the popular swimming lessons were in danger of being cancelled because of lack of helpers, he was keen to volunteer. “The children love the swimming sessions and I think it’s a really important part of the PE curriculum so I thought I’d offer to help…Having a few extra adults in the water with them gives them confidence and makes it possible for the whole class to take part.”
Something different
吴登昌
Lynsey says: “They bring in local business and other agencies to demonstrate something different, whether it’s science, farming, music or something to do with another culture, the children are able to see and learn about things they might not have the chance to do anywhere else. It’s all great fun but an effective teaching method, too. How many children get to see a group of African drummers in their school - fantastic!”
Curriculum: learning is fun!New country, new school - and new confidence for a shy
child through the intervention of Kingsway Infant School The Foundation Stage
Reception class is your child’s first step on their exciting journey in to school. It will not feel like learning…children will see it as fun, and an extension of their play.
The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum is based on seven areas of learning:
• Personal, Social and Emotional Development
• Communication and Language
• Physical Development
• Literacy
• Mathematics
• Understanding the World
• Expressive Arts and Design
中国军人核心价值观Flexible
The curriculum is designed to be flexible so that staff can follow your child’s unique needs and interests when playing.Charlotte and her sons Alex, six and Jake, one, live in Watford, to where they have recently returned from Brazil. Colourful, comfortable
Charlotte made Kingsway her first choice on the recommendation of people she knew who themselves had children there. “I was lucky to secure a place for Alex as we hadn’t even moved back to Watford, and when we were given a tour of the school by the Headteacher I loved the colourful and comfortable setting and the personal attention we were given. I really loved it, and now Alex loves it, too.”Apprehension
“Even when he was a small baby, Alex had separation anxiety… For almost four years, he was completely dependent upon my being close by, and sometimes that made life quite difficult.”Change for the better
“There is no question that he has come out of his shell, is much more confident and independent, and is happy and well-adjusted. I have always tried
to make him feel proud of himself, but it took Kingsway Infant School to show him that other people had faith in him and valued him, too.”
Key Stage One
After reception class, children move into Year 1 and then Year 2. In these years, children are working towards the National Curriculum.
The Key Stage 1 Curriculum is based on five core subjects:
• English  • Maths  • Science  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT) • Religious Education. Non-core subjects are Art, Design and Technology, Geography, History, Physical Education and Music. Topics In many cases these subjects are covered by topics to give children far greater understanding of a subject. For example, a lesson about the ‘The Great Fire of London’ would cover activities in literacy, history, role play, design technology, maths, science, geography etc.
Curriculum: learning is fun!SEAL – Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning SEAL lessons happen at least weekly. They help children to explore and understand social issues  and conventions such as sharing, getting on and falling out, changes etc. Within this area we aim to:•  d evelop self-esteem and respect for self  and others.
•  f oster responsibility for own actions and interactions with family, friends, school and the wider community.
•  p rovide accurate information about how the body works according to the developmental stage of the child.
•  d evelop skills of choice, decision making, assertiveness and communication.
