Reading (II)

 内容分析:

本单元的话题是“诗歌”,Reading板块的语篇是一篇演讲稿,主题是“如何读诗”,演讲者开宗明义,首先指出诗歌是英语和意象的结合体,然后结合实例提出四条建议。

Step 1 Lead-in

Listen to the passage and underline the following key words and expressions.

Step 2 Building vocabulary

1. Word study: dimension

 Introduce the meaning of dimension together with the following exercises.

(1) You will open a new dimension to your life.[2018.天津卷]

(2) The software generates three-dimensional (dimension) images.

(3) The designer has measured the dimensions (dimension) of the house.

2. Word study:

grasp

 Introduce the meaning of “grasp” a similar expression.

beyond one’s grasp掌握不住……;能力达不到

within one’s grasp 有把握……

have a good grasp of sth很好地掌握……

grasp a chance/an opportunity 毫不犹豫地抓住机会

(1) They failed to grasp (grasp) the significance of his words.

3. Word study: approach

 Introduce the meaning of “approach” a similar expression.

 Introduce the meaning of “contradictory” together with relevant expressions.

5. Phrase study: dig up clues

 Introduce the meaning of “dig up clues” with similar expressions.

6. Phrase study: with much painstaking effort

 Introduce the meaning of “with much painstaking effort” together with relevant

exercises.

 spare no effort to do sth 不遗余力做某事

 a joint effort 共同努力(的结果)

7. Phrase study: set sth aside

 Introduce the meaning of “set sth aside”.

(1) It is much wise to set aside some time to accompany (accompany) parents.

(2) These areas were set (set) aside for public recreational use last month.

(3) He urged the participants (participate) to set aside minor differences for the sake

of achieving peace.

8. Word study: reward

 Introduce the meaning of “reward” together with relevant expressions.

(1) You deserve a reward for being so helpful.

(2) She was rewarded (reward) for her efforts with a cash bonus early this year.

(3) The police offered a reward for any information about the robbery.

(4) The novel has won a number of awards (rewards/awards).

(5) Travelling along the old Silk Road is an interesting and rewarding (reward)

experience.

9. Word study: constantly

(1) Constant dropping wears (wear) away a stone.

(2) We are therefore not talking about adapting to a new standard, but to a constantly

10. Word study: perceive

landscape.

(6) Poems that are easy to understand (understand) are often less interesting than
