A phoneme is the smallest linguistic unit of sound that can

signal a difference in meaning.

5、英语语音分类

区分标准：the obstruction of airstream 气流受不受阻碍

元音（Vowels）

辅音（Consonants）

6、辅音的种类划分是建立于几种因素的基础上，其中最重要的

（1）发音器官之间的实际关系和空气是以何种形式通过声道的特定部分，这被称为发音方式 Manner of Articulation（MOA）

（2）声道的哪个位置存在approximation近似化，narrowing变窄，或者obstruction of air空气阻碍，这被称为发音位置 Place

of Articulation （POA）

（3）按声带是否振动划分，带声性Voicing

7、元音分类English Vowels

单元音 monophthong（12 个）/ɪ/ /ʊ/ /ɒ/ /ʌ/ /ə/ /e/ /æ/ /i:/

/u:/ /ɔ:/ /ɑ:/ /ɜ:/

双元音 diphthongs（8 个）/eɪ/ /aɪ/ /ɔɪ/ /əʊ/ /aʊ/ /ɪə/ /eə/

单元音分类方式：

（1）the position of the highest part of the tongue：前央后

（2）the height of tongue raising：高中低

（3）the tenseness/length of the vowels：长元音、短元音；松元音、紧元音

（4）the shape of the lips（rounded & unrounded)：圆唇音、非圆唇音

8、Morpheme: the smallest unit of language in terms of the

relationship between expression and content,a unit that can not

be divided into further smallest unit without destroying or

drastically altering the meaning,whether it is lexical or

grammatical.

词素（有的也叫语素）被定义为含有语义的最小语言单位，并且不能再被继续拆分。

9、Morphology studies the internal structure of words,and

the rules by which words are formed.

形态学：研究单词的结构以及构词法。

10、根据能否单独出现，可以把词素分为自由词素Free Morpheme和黏着词素Bound Morpheme。

Free morphemes: Those which may occur alone, that is, those

which may constitute words by themselves, are free morphemes.

自由词素：能单独出现。如 dog，man，baby 等，这些都是单独的单词，可以成为自由词素。

Bound morphemes: Those which must appear with at least

another morpheme are called bound morphemes.

黏着词素：不能单独出现，如 un-，dis-，-ed，-tion，这些都是词缀，-s也要依附于名词表达复数概念，这些词都没办法单独出现。如 unhappy，dislike， 要依附别人才能成立。
