An extinct mountain goat that was once
common in the Pyrenees became the first animal to be brought back from
chers used frozen DNA to produce a clone, but the newborn kid died
within minutes of birth due to breathing difficulties.
The Pyrenean ibex is a type of mountain goat, which is believed to have died out
completely in the death of the last known individual, which was known
as Celia, biologists took cells from her skin and earlier cloning attempt to use
the skin cells the latest attempt involved the creation of 439 cloned
these cloned embryos,57 were put into the female domestic goats, but
only one goat gave birth and the newborn cloned kid died after seven minutes as a
result of lung disease.
Researchers say that other cloned animals, including sheep, have been born with
similar lung disease, but they say that overall the experiment was a major step
forward in the effort to bring the ibex back to its mountain leading
researcher Jose Folch says,“The cloned kid was genetically like the ibex;in species
such as the ibex, cloning is the only possibility to avoid its complete disappearance.”
The failure to produce a living clone from DNA that was frozen only a decade
ago shows the difficulty researchers would face in trying to bring back species that
have been extinct(灭绝的)for decades or chers have had the idea of
bringing back the Tasmanian tiger, which went extinct in are, however, other species that have been seriously suggested for cloning, such as the giant panda, the African bongo antelope, the Sumatran tiger and the pygmy ters
believe cloning provides hope of keeping these endangered animals alive before they
die out.
1.What do we know about the cloned ibex?
A.It died of lung disease.
B.It was the first cloned animal in the world.
C.It lived for thirteen years.
D.It was born in 2000.
根据第二段最后一句“...but only one goat gave birth and
the newborn cloned kid died after seven minutes as a result of lung disease.” 故选A。]
2.Jose Folch would agree that cloning ________.
A.is not suitable and should be banned
B.requires immediate attention
C.should be carried out cautiously
D.may help prevent animal extinction
根据第三段中Jose Folch说的话“...cloning is the only
possibility to avoid its complete disappearance.”
3.We can conclude from the passage that ________.
A.cloning has developed quickly in developed countries
B.no more animals will die out in the future
C.cloning makes it possible to preserve endangered species
D.cloning seldom results in physical problems for animals
provides hope of keeping these endangered animals alive before they die out.”
4.What's the best title for this passage?
A.Great Advancement in Cloning Goats
B.Difficulties in Saving Extinct Animals
C.Public Concerns about Cloning
D.Cloning Brought Back an Extinct Species for a While

Authors Kyle Kurpinski and Terry D.Johnson pretty much have me convinced
that human cloning is quite possible and is a future ski and Johnson
are both bioengineering experts; unlike similar scientists you have seen in the movies, they both have a sense of surprises me is that Kurpinski and Johnson are
able to take something as complicated as DNA and make it understandable.
The book How to Defeat Your Own Clone teaches us what is now known as
DNAencoded, how that happens, and why people with similar DNA don't look or act
the book not only helps us get a basic understanding of what DNA and its
purpose are,but also explains cloning and stem cell(干细胞) occurs to me
that a lot of people who are against stem cell research don't know what they are
protesting authors provide a history of cloning,as well as information
about stem cells.
The real fun starts when the authors attack various myths about
sly,too many people have been watching too many bad movies and
television er they're just fictional ,somehow, scientists
manage to clone you, twenty years from now your clone isn't going to kill
the myths explored and exploded are that a clone will know everything you know and
will act as you do,that heads which are cut off can be kept alive, and that a clone has
no belly button(肚脐).Many of the myths are ridiculous but many people believe
them.
Kurpinski and Johnson also detail some bioimprovements“that really
work”.You see, genes can be controlled to help you sleep better and become smarter, healthier, and ...not exactly you,but future generations.
If you do wind up in a battle with your own clone, who will be considerably
younger than you, remember that it is not you and that it doesn't know what you
know.
5.Which of the following things are in the book How to Defeat Your Own Clone?
a.What DNA and its purpose are.
b.Who is against cloning.
c.The history of cloning.
d.The myths about cloning.
e.The disadvantages of cloning.
A.a,b,e
C.b,d,e
B.a,c,d
D.b,c,d
由第二段的“The book not only helps us get a basic
understanding of what DNA and its The authors provide a history of
The real fun starts when the authors attack various myths
about cloning.”
6.We can learn from the passage that biotechnology ________.
A.has been banned in many countries around the world
B.is being used to improve one's intelligence right now
C.can help improve the physical condition of future generations
D.is sure to cure any disease in the near future
从第四段的“You see, genes can be controlled to help you
sleep better and become smarter, healthier, and ...not exactly you,but future
generations.”
7.The passage was written mainly to ________.
A.predict the future of cloning
B.introduce two bioengineering experts
C.review a book on cloning
D.protest against movies about cloning
