Abstract：Translation Criticism and Appreciation is a compulsory course in translation

only does it emphasize the theory，but the ability to appreciate translations based on the

translation skills and on the instruction given by in in her class，this

thesis will criticize and appreciate two translations version of the famous essay“Youth”（Samuel

Ehrmann）.The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the original texts from the aspects of text type，language style and the features of the will compare the two translation versions

with“Three Beauties”Principle anddifferences between Chinese and Englishto improve our translation

ability，make translation requirements clearer，and finally provide reference to future translations.

1 Introduction

According to the definition in Chinese Translation Dictionary，“translation criticism”refers to“a

comprehensive evaluation of the process，quality and value of its translation with reference to a

certain standard.”Taking the prose Youth，written by a famous German writer Samuel Ehrmann，as

an example，this essay critiques and appreciates the two translations of Sui Rongyi and Li Ming

based on the principle of“Three Beauties”by Yuanchong and the difference of Chinese and

English language habits.

2 Appreciation of two translations

On the basis of the original，two translators try their best to convey the meaning of the original

in a suitable grammatical two version follow the text type of the original text，essay，fully convey the original information in the original writing skills and basically reached the same

purpose with the mistranslation，missing translation and other issues r，there are some differences in the use of words，language structure and other aspect，deservibng our

deeply analyzing and discussing.

The original：“Youth is not a time of life；it is a state of is not a matter of rosy

cheeks，red lips and supple knees；it is a matter of the will，a quality of the imagination，a vigor of

the emotion；it is the freshness of the deep spring of life.”
