印度洒红节英文介绍

Holi is an ancient Hindu spring festival celebrated in

India that signifies the triumph of good over evil. It is a

joyful event marked by vibrant colors, music, and dance. Also

known as the “festival of colors” or the “festival of

love”, Holi is one of the most popular Hindu festivals and

is celebrated all across India and in some parts of Nepal.

This two-day festival begins on the full moon day in the

month of Phalguna (February-March) and marks the end of

winter and the start of spring. The first day is known as

“Chhoti Holi” or “Holika Dahan” and is celebrated by

lighting bonfires and praying to Lord Vishnu, the god of

protection and preservation.

The second day is known as “Rangwali Holi” and is

thrillingly celebrated with colors, water pistols and water

balloons. People smear each other with colored powder, called

'Gulal', which is made from a variety of herbs and flowers.

This color play symbolizes the joyous spirit of Holi and the

coming of new colors and fragrances into people’s lives.

Traditional music and dance add to the festive atmosphere as

well.

Holi is also associated with several stories from Hindu

mythology. According to one such legend, a wicked king called

Hiranyakashipu ordered his son Prahlad to worship him instead

of Lord Vishnu. But Prahlad stayed devoted and refused. In

order to save his son, Vishnu descended to Earth in his

Narasimha Avatar and killed the wicked king. To commemorate

this victory, people light bonfires on Holi and celebrate the

triumph of good over evil.

Another legend states that Radha, a milkmaid, and Lord

Krishna were especially fond of each other. To showcase their

love, they would apply colors and mehendi to each other

during Holi. Thus, strong bonds of love are symbolized

through the use of colors.

The festival of Holi is a playful way of expressing joy

and celebrating the renewal of nature. Whether it’s playing

holi with colors, enjoying sweet treats, or simply taking in

the vibrant atmosphere, it’s no wonder that Holi is India’s

favorite festival.
