Guangzhou,in English and other European languages also

known as Canton(which was first romanized from the Cantonese

pronunciation of Guangdong by the Portuguese) and also known

as Kwangchow,is one of the five National Central Cities and a

sub-provincial city located in southern China in the middle of

Guangdong Province north of the Pearl River,about 120 km (75

mi) northwest of Hong Kong.

It is the third largest city in China and the capital of

Guangdong Province,southern China's largest city and key

transportation hub and trading port,located on the Pearl River

which is navigable to the South China of the 2000

census,the city has a population of 6 million,and an urban area

population of roughly 11.85 million,making it the most populous

city in the province and the third most populous metropolitan

area in Guangzhou government's official estimate of

the city's population at the end of 2009 was 10,334,500,an

addition of 152,500 people from last year.

big city. There are so many towns in it. Just in Panyu, there are

seventeen towns.

I live in Panyu and I love it very much. There are many places

we can enjoy ourselves. Bao Moyuan is one of the interesting

places in Panyu. There are a lot of gold fish in the artificial lake.

Some people sell fish food everywhere. You can spend five yuan

buying one bag and feed the fish. That’s are also

many big trees, colorful flowers. The nests of birds are on the big

trees, they all enjoy themselves very much. Of course, I can have

fun every time when I go there.

Another beautiful place I want to mention is Lotus mountain .

That is a good place for praying.. The most important part of it is

the tall statue of Guangying. Many people visit there and pray

good luck for their families, their marriage, their career. You can

also enjoy trees, flowers, waters, stones there. From the top of

the mountain, you can also watch the pearl river. That’s really

good.

My hometown and Guangzhou are different in many ways.

Firstly, people in Guangzhou speak several languages. For

example, local citizens speak Cantonese, and the immigrants

speak Mandarin. And there are many foreigners and oversea

people living in Guangzhou. They mainly speak English. Once I

traveled in Guangzhou, I found it a little difficult to understand

Cantonese. Thus I tried to communicate with them in Mandarin.

Sometimes when I met some foreigners, I also chatted with them

in English. However, people in my hometown always speak local

dialect.

Secondly, people in my hometown are selfish, because they

only care about their own benefits. But people in Guangzhou are

much more generous. They are willing to help others when

people are in trouble.

Thirdly, Guangzhou is in the south of China. With Pearl River

running across the city, Guangzhou enjoys a warm and wet

climate. While my hometown is deep in the mountains, and the

weather is so changeable. Sometimes it's as cold as winter, and

sometimes it's as hot as summer in a day, which make me feel so

irritated.

Besides, the food in my hometown is too hot and spicy. But

Cantonese food is much lighter. It's neither too salty nor too light.

Finally, the environment in my hometown is polluted

seriously, because of the tail gas emitted by private cars. And the

waste gas and water from factories is also a main cause of

pollution. Nevertheless, in Guangzhou, trees and flowers are

planted everywhere, which can fight against the pollutants and

provide us with fresh air. So the sky is fairly clean and bright. We

will feel pleasant when getting around in that city. That's why I

get so tired of my hometown and how much I dream of living in
