英文版:Gui Haichao heads to space, becoming China's first
scientist to land in space, attracting attention.
China's Shenzhou-16 spacecraft is about to launch, and one
of the three astronauts is a new face that has attracted a lot
of attention. He is Gui Haichao, a professor and doctoral
supervisor at Beihang University in Beijing. He is a payload
expert and will also become China's first scientist to land in
space.
Standing out from 2,500 candidates
Born in 1986, Gui studied aircraft design at the School of
Astronautics at Beihang University for his bachelor's,
master's, and doctoral degrees. After obtaining his doctorate,
he went abroad for three years as a postdoctoral researcher
before returning to Beihang University through talent
introduction programs to engage in teaching and research work.
He has published 30 SCI-indexed papers, obtained two invention
patents, led more than ten scientific research projects, and
is a true scientist.
Through selection, he stood out among 2,500 candidates and
became one of the 18 reserve astronauts and one of the four
selected payload experts.
China aims to move research into space
Gui Haichao has a dream. He said: "I once dreamed of being
able to move my beloved scientific research work into space
someday. When I learned in 2018 that our country was selecting
the first batch of payload experts, I signed up without
hesitation."
Gui Haichao's dream is also the dream of Chinese astronauts.
The space station China is building has many experimental
facilities, such as experimental cabinets, equipment dedicated
to life sciences, physics, materials science, and precision
equipment such as atomic clocks. They need real scientists to
experiment with them. Traditionally, astronauts have mainly
been pilots, and China's previous astronauts were no exception.
This time, introducing scientists as astronauts is a
significant attempt.
Scientists entering China's space station are just the
beginning
Scientists entering China's space station are just the
beginning. China plans to select more scientists to enter the
space station in the future.
In terms of payload experts, China will not only select
within the mainland but also select candidates from Hong Kong
and Macao. According to public information, more than ten
candidates from Hong Kong and Macao entered the second round
of selection in China's fourth batch of astronaut selection.
We can also forecast that in the future, there will be more
scientists from other fields entering space through selection
to conduct scientific experiments in China's space station.
We can even speculate that with China's international
cooperation in space, foreign scientists may be allowed to
apply to enter China's space station in the future.
