我们经常在一些比较正式的场合听到honor这个词，但是对于honor的用法我们真正了解和掌握吗？下面先让我们来体会一下下面这一小段文字中honor的几个常用含义：

The guests of honor, I should say I feel quite honored to be here today. It is a unique honor to act

as Host City. I also understand it is an honor which comes with a great responsibility and which

requires the highest levels of co-operation with the ICO—to uphold the honor of our country and be

the honor to our country. Maybe you will not be honored with anything, but we honor each

上面这段文字中一共出现了8个honor,但是有不同的意义：

第一个honor为不可数名词，原文“the guests of honor”意为“贵宾”。这里的honor意为“尊敬，尊重，崇敬”。

例如： the seat of honor 贵宾席位

第二个honor所在原文“feel quite honored to be here”意为“感到很荣幸能在此”，此处honor常用结构be/feel honored（to do sth.），意为“做某事感到很荣幸”。

例如：I am honored to have the opportunity to work and be involved in this wonderful city！非常高兴我能有机会在这个美好的城市工作，并融入其中。

第三，第四个honor皆为可数名词，与不定冠词连用，意为“光荣，荣幸”。

例如：It was a great honor to be invited here. 受邀来这儿是极大荣耀。

I deem it an honor to accept your invitation. 我很荣幸接受你的邀请。

第五个honor为名词，原文“uphold the honor of our country”意为“捍卫我们国家的荣誉”。这里的honor意为“荣誉，名誉”。

例如：“I will pledge my honor,” replied Matt.“我拿我的荣誉担保，”马特回答说。

第六个honor为名词，原文“be the honor to our country”意为“成为我们国家的骄傲”。此处honor意为“引起尊敬（或崇拜）的人（或事物）”，常用结构“the honor to sb./sth.”。

例如：She is the honor to the profession. 她是这一行的骄傲。

第七个honor为动词，原文“be ”意为“给予……作为表扬”。此处honor意为“给予表扬（或奖励、头衔、称号）”，常用结构“honor sb.（with sth.） （for sth.）”

例如：The school honored the top students with the title of “Distinguished Students”. 学校给这些好学生授予了“优秀学生”的称号。

The mayor honored the heroes for their bravery in the war. 市长表彰了这些英雄在战场上的英勇表现。

第八个honor为动词，原文“honor each of you”意为“尊敬你们每一个人”。此处honor意为“尊敬，尊重”，常用结构“honor sb.”。

例如：He who does not honor his wife, dishonors himself. 不尊重妻子的人，也不会受到尊重。

honor常用搭配

1. do sb. an honor/ do sb. the honor (of doing sth) 使增光；赏光；给……带来荣誉

例如：Would you do me the honor of dining with me？能否赏光和我共进晚餐？

You do us a great honor by attending. 你肯光临使我们感到无比荣幸。

2. have the honnour of sth./ doing sth. 得到殊荣，有幸做某事

例如：May I have the honor of the next dance？我能够有幸和您跳下一支舞吗？

It’s a great pleasure to have the honor of making your acquaintance. 能认识您不胜荣幸。

3. feel honor bound to do sth.（感到）道义上应做某事

例如：I feel honor bound to attend because I promised I would. 我觉得道义上我该参加会议，因为是我答应过的。

4. in honor of sb./sth. in sb.’s/sth.’s honor 为向……表示敬意；为纪念……

例如：This monument was erected in honor of the martyrs during the internal war. 这座纪念碑是为内战中牺牲的烈士们而建立的。

They held a reception in the foreign visitors’ honor. 他们为国外来访者举行了招待会。
