the main idea without looking at the passage.
It mainly talks about the five phases:
Honeymoon phase: be excited about the new environment
Rejection phase: form a unfriendly feeling to the
environment
Regression phase: chat with people speaking your mother
tongue, eat food from home, watch video in your native
language.
Recovery phase, get used to the foreign country.
Reverse culture shock: feel uncomfortable when go back

Ss must know the topic of Unit 3, so some Qs about movies
can be included as leading-in.

kind movies do you like most? Do you know what
kind of movies there are? Comedy, action, emotional movie,
kongfu, gunplay, tragedy,cartoon, animation, science-fiction film,
thriller and so on.
's your favourite English movie? What English movie
have you ever seen? Gone with the Wind, Sound of Music, Titanic,
Forrest Gump, The Pursuit of Happiness, Crash, Brokeback
Mountain, A Beautiful Soul, Twilight, New moon, Eclipse and so
on.

Director--- the person to direct the film,like Zhang Yimou
and Feng Xiaogang Producer---the person invest the making of
the film
Other relevant words: hero, heroine, leading actor, actress,
script, line, special-effect, cinema, screen and so on.
Ask Ss to turn to glossary part in page 35 to add more to the
list, and explain or exemplify the items if necessary.
Film festival---ask Ss to surf the internet to find information
about different film festivals after class, and tell them that they
are required to tell classmates the information in class.
Drive-in cinema---cinema you can park your car and spend
the night
Motel---motor hotel
Give Ss several minutes to review what we learned about
movie.
(45')Part 3 Passage- reading
pretest (8')
Give Ss 8' to do the exercises and guide them to remember
the words while checking the answers.

Let Ss read the title and guess what is going to be discussed.
Ask Ss if they have seen or heard about the newest movie by
Feng Xiaogang. Absolutely they will response "yes"
Several Qa will be given:
Have you seen the earthquake in the movie?
Is it true? Are the buildings real ones?
How does the director get that kind of effect?
....
All these need special effect. And tell Ss the passage is going
to tell how the special-
effects are formed.
Give Ss 15' to read the passage and do the exercises.
3. Read the text and do the exercise (15')
4. Check the answers and guide Ss to review the main idea
of the text, especially how to make certain different effects. (7')
How to make fish still?--- use the electricity
How to make the huge thing? --- make the model, somttimes
at the same size by wood How to make fire?---use pipe filled with
gas, which is easily to be controlled.
How to make explosion?---use explosives, and the special-
effect men should examine the area and place the explosive
several days before the shooting of certain scenes. the 4
passages and check the answer, and explain when necessary. (15')
Remind that every decision or choice should have its foundation,
which can be found in the passage.
