Play Word Relay.

1. Divide the class in groups and have them sit in rows. The first student in each row whispers the

words breath, fashion, balloon, deep and candle to the next student. That student then whispers the

words to the next student, and so on.

2. The last student in each row comes to the front of the class and writes the words on the board.

The row that has the most correct words wins. The rows that do not win have to make sentences

using at least three words.

Step 6 Class work

the students to interview their family members or classmates about their birthdays and fill in

the table. Then choose one story and write a report about it.

Step 7 Writing

Ask the students to write a thank-you letter to their parents or friends.

T:Suppose it’s your birthday today. You get many presents from your friends. Your parents have a

party for you at home. Write a thank-you letter to thank your parents or friends.

Step 8 Language points

1. Many thanks for the presents!非常感谢这些礼物!

many thanks for意为“因……而非常感谢”,其中thanks为名词,一般用复数形式。

2. The style is in fashion here in China…

这种款式在中国很流行……

fashion 名词,意为“流行的式样;时尚”。

in fashion 意思是“时尚;流行” 。

out of fashion意为“过时的,不流行的”。

The hat was in fashion ten years ago but now it is out of fashion.

这顶帽子十年前很流行,但是现在过时了。

3. I laughed and laughed when I saw it.

当我看到这顶帽子的时候,我笑个没完。

laugh and laugh意为“笑了又笑,笑个不停”。

and为并列连词,连接两个相同的成分,and连接两个动词时表示动作的重复。

think of 意为“想起,想到”。

5. When it was time for dessert, she turned off the lights, and my father carried the cake into the

room.

turn off 意为“关掉”。其反义短语是turn on(打开)。turn up意为“调高(音量等)”,其反义短语是 turn down,意为“调低(音量等)”。

Don’t forget to turn off the gas after you finish cooking.

【注意】turn off/on/up/down为“动词+副词”结构的短语,宾语为人称代词时,必须将人称代词放在动词和副词之间。

6. Then I took a deep breath and blew out the candles immediately.

take a deep breath 意为 “深呼吸,深吸一口气”。

blew 为 blow 的过去式,blow的过去分词为blown。

blow out 意为“吹熄;吹灭”。

7. Li Ming’s mother picked up the presents from the post office.

李明的妈妈从邮局取回礼物。

pick up 意为“捡起,拾起,取回”。为“动词+副词”结构的短语,宾语为人称代词时,必须将人称代词放在动词和副词之间。

pick up还有“开车接(某人)”的意思。

8. I couldn’t wait to call you.我迫不及待地给你打电话。

can’t wait to do sth.意为“迫不及待地做某事”。

The children can’t wait to open the box.
