couple， pair

一、couple 名词。意思是“夫妻、两个（人或物）、双、对”。主要是用于表示人或动物的“对和双”。couple还可以作动词表示“连在一起”。例如：

They are a newly-married couple. 他们是一对新婚夫妇。

We are a model couple. 我们是模范夫妻。

I found a couple of socks in the bedroom but they don't make a

pair. 我在寝室到二只鞋垫，但不是一双。

Her name was coupled with his.(动词) 她的名字和他的连在一起。

二、pair 名词。意思是“一双、一幅、一把（剪刀）、一条（裤子）、一对夫妻（爱人）”。主要是指东西，而且这东西是由两个部分组成一双。比如：鞋子、袜子、裤子、手套等。pair还可以作动词表示“配成一对、结成伴侣”。例如：

George needed a new pair of shoes. 乔治需要一双新鞋子。

He handed me a pair of scissors. 他递给我一把剪刀。

cost， spend， take

一、cost 及物动词、名词。作及物动词表示“花费（金钱、时间）、使付出（代价）”。句子中的主语往往是物或做某事，可跟双宾语。常可和take换用。例如：

A camel costs $500 to buy and $4 a day to feed. 买一头骆驼要花五百美元而且每天要花四美元饲养。

It must cost a good deal to live here.生活在这里消费一定很高。

Careless driving cost him his life. 粗心驾驶使他付出了生命。

Compiling a dictionary costs much time and patience.编纂一本字典是需要很多时间和耐心的。二、spend 及物动词。意思是“花费、用（钱）、花（时间）、度过（一段时间）”。句子中的主语往往是人。跟on+名词或代词的介词短语、in+动名词的介词短语、现在分词。在花时间方面强调做某事花了多少时间，不强调做某事的结果。例如：

I spent half my money on clothes. 我花一半的钱买衣服。

The boy spent 3 hours in doing his homework.那男孩花了三小时做家庭作业。

I have spent all day looking for you. 我花了一整天时间你。

She has gone to Hainan , spending the winter there.她已经去了海南，在那儿度过冬天。

三、take 作及物动词。意思是“需要、花费”。主语往往是某事或动作，很少是“人”。在花时间上往往暗含花了多少时间才把某事做完。当然take还表示其他很多的意义。例如：

This car takes a great deal of oil. 这辆车耗油量大。

It took three men to lift the box. 提起这箱子需要三个人。

It took the boy three hours to do his homework.那男孩花了三个小时才做完作业。

The work will take a month. 这项工作要花一个月才能做完。

convince， persuade

一、convince 及物动词。意思是“使相信、说服”。重点在“相信”上。用过去分词作表语时多。例如：

He convinced me he was right. 他使我相信他是正确的。

He instantly convinced himself that it was so.他即刻说服自己就是那回事。

He is now convinced of the truth of the report.(过去分词) 他现在才相信报告的真实性。

Are you a hundred per cent convinced yourself ？你百分之百的相信自己吗？

二、persuade 及物动词。意思是“劝说好（某人做某事）、使相信”。重点在“劝说”上。一般跟带不定式的复合结构。例如：

I tried to persuade her to see a doctor. 我试着劝她去看医生。

Who persuaded you to join the society ？ 谁劝你加入这个社团的？

The salesman persuaded us to buy his product.销售员劝我们买他的产品。
