SOMETIMES vs SOMETIME vs SOME TIME

SOMETIMES:

◆ an adverb of frequency 频率副词

◆ = occasionally, but not very often 偶尔、有时

◆ It is often used with the simple present or simple past.

◆ 通常用一般现在时或一般过去时

★ Sometimes I drive to school, and at other times I take the bus.

★ 有时我开车去学校，其它时间，我坐公交车去。

★ Sometimes he likes to sleep with his boots on.

★ 有时他喜欢穿着靴子睡觉。

★ I wake up early most days, but sometimes I get to sleep in.

★ 大多数时候我都会早起，但有时我也会睡懒觉。

★ She sometimes orders takeout for lunch.

★ 她有时午餐点外卖。

★ His Spanish is pretty good, but he sometimes makes grammar

mistakes.

SOMETIME:

◆ SOMETIME + a time period一个时间段

★ I’m planning to get a haircut sometime this week.

★ 我打算这周个时间去理发。

★ I will clean the kitchen sometime soon!

★ I’ll call you sometime this afternoon.

★ 我今天下午个时间给你打电话。

★ She quit her job sometime last year.

SOME TIME:

◆ SOME is a determiner and TIME is an uncountable noun.

◆ SOME是限定词，TIME是不可数名词。

◆ Means an unspecified span of time, a period of time

◆ ◆表示不确定的一段时期。

◆ It can be used in the past, present or future.

◆ 可用于过去、现在或将来的时态中。

★ It takes some time to become fluent in a new language, so don’t give

up.

★ 熟练掌握一门新语言需要一些时间，所以不要放弃。

★ It’s not you, it’s me. I think we need some time apart.

★ 不是你的问题，是我的问题。我想我们需要分开一段时间。

★ He did volunteer work for some time in college.

★ 他在上大学的时候做过一段时间的志愿工作。

★ It will take some time to finish this project.

★ 完成这个项目需要一些时间。

B: Great! I have some time this weekend.

A: Oh! I sometimes go away for the weekend. I’ll ask my wife and get

HUNDRED, THOUSAND, MILLION, BILLION, DOZEN, SCORE

◆ For a specific number, or when you have a number at the beginning,

we do not put an S at the end of HUNDRED, THOUSAND, MILLION,

BILLION, DOZEN, SCORE.

◆ 表示具体数目，这些词的前面有具体的数字修饰时，用单数形式，且后面不加介词OF。

★ three hundred books 三百本书

★ fifty thousand trees 五万棵树

★ More than seven million people have been affected by drought.

★ 已超过700万民众受到旱灾的影响。

★ 3 billion dollars 30亿美元

dozen: 一打、十二个

★ You will be allowed to take ten dozen bottles free of duty through

customs.

★ 海关允许你携带120瓶免税商品。

score: 二十、约二十

★ The Bible states that the life of man is three score and ten.

★ 《圣经》指出人的寿命是七十岁。

◆ We use an S at the end to express an approximate number. This

gives an idea of quantity though not a precise amount. Don’t put a

number before it. HUNDREDS, THOUSANDS, MILLIONS, BILLION,

DOZEN, SCORE are usually followed by OF plus a plural noun.

◆ 表不具体的数目，表示“很多”的概念，通常在HUNDRED, THOUSAND,

MILLION, BILLION, DOZEN, SCORE后面加S，再加介词OF + 复数名词，且这些词的前面不加具体数字。

★ Millions of people died during World War II.

★ 二战期间有数百万人死亡。

★ Billions of years ago, universe was too hot for life to exist.

★ 数十亿年前,宇宙太热,不适合生命生存。

★ The storm destroyed dozens of homes and buildings.

★ 这场暴风雨摧毁了许多房屋和建筑。

★ There were scores of boxes, all waiting to be checked and loaded.

★ 大批的箱子等着检验后装运。
